It's a myth put about by Labour luvvies that the Ebacc and/or the EBC (they always confuse them, too) will mean schoolchildren are discouraged from studying Art, Music, Drama and Design Technology. At present, the majority of English primary and secondary schools in the state sector include all those subjects in their core curricula in KS1 (5-7), KS2 (7-11) and KS3 (11-14) and there's no evidence that's about to change. In KS4 (14-16), there's no reason why the majority of pupils shouldn't continue to study for qualifications in "creative" subjects while at the same time studying the Ebacc/EBC subjects which, in any event, won't be compulsory. Gove isn't proposing to abolish GCSEs in Art, Music, Drama and Design Technology. This is a complete red herring. |
