"One of the area’s top labor organizations has withdrawn its support of Democratic State Sens. Antoine M. Thompson of Buffalo and William T. Stachowski of Lake View, accusing them of 'waffling' on more independence for the University at Buffalo. Paul Brown, president of the Buffalo Building and Construction Trades Council, sent letters to both senators this week pulling the endorsements it granted several weeks ago and warning them to refrain from any implication that they have the unions’ support."
